Officer Jake Burns
My name is Officer Jake Burns and I'm with the Sandy City Police Department. I have been a police officer for seven years, having worked with youth for the past six years.
I was assigned to work with six different elementary schools for about three years. For the first two years I taught D.A.R.E, along with dealing with various juvenile problems. We then changed the program that we taught to N.O.V.A. where I taught it for one year in those same six schools. (www.dare.com, www.novaprincipals.com)
I was then assigned to work with two middle schools for about six months, where I dealt with the many juvenile problems that occurred. I have been here at Alta High School since January of 2010 and enjoy the variety that it brings. I enjoy being in the schools and working with kids. It gives me an opportunity to have some positive interaction with them.
I enjoy teaching the Law Enforcement Class. This gives me the opportunity to help share with the kids what the law is about. It also helps those students who are contemplating becoming a police officer in the future, understand that police work isn't all about car chases, foot chases, tazings, shootings, etc... Hopefully they learn that the "boring stuff"(ie: interview and interrogation techniques, report writing and courtroom testifying) is just as important. My goal is that they finish the class understanding better what the full duties of an officer are.
If you need to contact me for any reason please call me on my desk phone: 801-826-5619 or you can email me at [email protected].
